Remembrance Sunday 2023
Our Act of Remembrance took place on Sunday, 12th November, at 10.55 pm at the War Memorial. Mrs L Willshaw took the service and many came to remember those from the parish who died during the First World War and subsequent conflicts.
The Act of Remembrance included two minutes of silence and a once-a-year opportunity to reflect on and pray for those who gave their lives for our country and our freedom and, by extension, for all those affected by past and current conflicts.
Those from the parish who died during the 1914-18 conflict and whose names are engraved on the memorial are as follows:
- Frederick Whitney, H.M.S. Hampshire
- Ivan Essex, Royal Engineers
- George Harrison, Northumberland Fusiliers
- Joseph Wray, Northumberland Fusiliers
- Harry Whitney, West Yorkshire Regiment
- William Smailes, Yorkshire Regiment
- Thomas Campbell, Yorkshire Regiment
- Harry Brindley, Yorkshire Regiment
- Maurice Smailes, Yorks and Lancs
- Richard Hildreth, Middlesex Regiment
- John Essex, North Riding Volunteer Regiment
We will remember them.
