The Parish Council

The Nunnington Parish Councils play a vital role in representing the interests of the parish of Nunnington, Ness and Muscoates. As the first tier of local government closest to the residents, the Council serves as a crucial link between the village and North Yorkshire Council (NYC).

Our Parish Council has the authority to provide a range of services that directly impact life in our village, such as the roads (and salt in the winter), verges, trees and more. The Council also has a say in local planning applications, helping to shape the future development of the village in a way that reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.

By actively engaging with residents through meetings and consultations, the Parish Council ensures that the voices of Nunnington are heard, fostering a sense of community and working towards the betterment of the village as a whole.

Members

Members are elected during the local elections in May every four years. The elections due in May 2026 are postponed until May 2027 due to the reorganisation of the regional governing bodies into as single council for North Yorkshire.

At the last election in 2022, the following residents were elected:

  • James Clive
  • John Elphinstone (Treasurer)
  • Dr Andrew Philips (Resigned July 2024)
  • Stephen Rook (Chair)
  • David Stamp (Appointed October 2024)
  • Mary Thew

Maggie Dickinson was appointed as the Clerk to the Council in April 2024.

Meetings

The Parish Council meets four times a year and may call additional unscheduled meetings to respond to planning applications.

Residents who are not Council members are welcome and encouraged to attend and listen to the Council’s considerations. Time is usually set aside after the close of formal proceedings to ask questions. This is an opportunity to become involved in the running of our village, so please do come along

Minutes of meetings will be posted below, as required by North Yorkshire Council.
