A slightly damp but otherwise thoroughly enjoyable Nunnington Bash took place on Saturday. Please send us your photos. You can find the first few at nunnington.net/ nunnington-bash-2024/.

The fencing erected on the derelict land on Station Road caused some comments. The Trustees of the Nunnington estate have now written to the Parish Council, and you can read the letter and a note from the Parish Council at nunnington.net/station-road-fencing/

Upcoming events

Village coffee mornings

Coffee mornings take place at the tea rooms on the first Thursday of the month from 10:30 a.m. They’re a good chance to catch up with neighbours over Sally’s delicious coffee and and Jane’s moreish cakes.

  • The June coffee morning is on Election Day this Thursday 4th July
  • The August coffee morning is on 1 August, Yorkshire Day (wear a white rose if you can)

All are welcome to both events.

The Village Cricket Match

This year the Estate XI will take on the Vicar.’s XI on Sunday 7 July, starting at 1 pm (NOT 11 am as originally planned) on the cricket field. Everyone is welcome, any age and any ability, and teams will be selected on the day. Please get in touch with Andrew Pope if you would like to play and please bring your own cricket bat or any kit if you have any.

You are welcome to come along and watch if you are not playing. Bring a picnic, a bottle and a chair.

Please keep an eye on the village Facebook page or the calendar event at https://nunnington.net/event/cricket-match-jul-24/ for last-minute details

Courtyard Drinks and Nibbles

As last year, there will be a village get-together in the Studios after the match, starting at around 6 p.m. It will be a good occasion to celebrate your team’s win or commiserate on your team’s loss.

The format remains the same. Bring your own food and drink to share. Have fun. Please take your stuff home and leave the Courtyard clean and tidy.

Parish Council Meeting

The Parish Council meets on Thursday 25th July at 7 pm in the Village Hall. All are welcome. Items that may come up for discussion will be posted on the calendar at https://nunnington.net/event/pc-jul-24/

Patronal Festival Songs of Praise

Sue Binks and the Church Wardens have arranged a special Songs of Praise for the village church’s Patronal Festival, the feast of St James, at 6 pm on Sunday 28 July.

The service will be taken by Sue, who would be delighted to receive any requests from the Village – perhaps a hymn that has special meaning or just a hymn that you love or haven’t sung for ages. Please let Sue Binks, Alastair Stewart or Maggie Dickenson know at least a few days before the service.

The Nunnington Choir will reform to sing hymns at the service, and Mary and Sally would love you to join them. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings during July. No experience is necessary. Please get in touch with Mary or Sally for details and music for the rehearsal.

There will be a glass or two of bubbly after the service.

Further details will be posted on the calendar at https://nunnington.net/event/sop-24/

Village Table-Top sale

The table-top sale is still seven weeks away, so you have plenty of time to clear out your lofts and cellars. Please call Eimear on 01439 748 434 / 07484 201 518 to book your pitch (first come, first serve).

Further details can be found on the calendar at https://nunnington.net/event/table-top-sale/

Some of these events are still being arranged, so please check the website calendar and event pages for details as they become available.
