Harvest Festival, 2023

This year the service of thanksgiving for the harvest took place in the Courtyard at Nunnington Studios.

We gave thanks for the harvest in the Courtyard at Nunnington Studios. Unlike much of the rest of the summer, the rain kept off, and the outdoor service, led by Rev’d Canon Sue Binks, was a fitting and well-attended tribute to our farmers. Rev’d Sue gave a powerful sermon, telling the tale of the visitor who prepared a meal for his host, and once again, the children of the village were willing participants, bringing up the items of food when the tale called for them.

The children from the village also offered their gifts to the altar with grace and style. As always, we prayed for and remembered all those who worked on the land and prepared and distributed our food. And, as always, we remembered and prayed for all those living in poverty and going without food and, more often than not, without clean water.

The service also had unexpected but beautiful visitors in the form of a large skein of geese which flew directly overhead, unfortunately distracting the congregation from the vicar’s words but raising words of wonder from the congregation.
