Farewell to the end of an era

The village has said farewell to two much-loved and long-time Nunnington families.

Two of the village’s best known families, the Metcalfes and the Rutters, have left Nunnington.

Ken and Enid Metcalfe

Brian Metcalfe writes that his Mum and Dad, Ken and Enid Metcalfe, would just like to say a very fond farewell to Nunnington.

Ken and Enid came to the village in 1986 and Ken started his job on the estate, eventually taking over as foreman, a job he loved, soon becoming the go-to guy if anyone had any problems.

Mum soon joined the team up at the pub, working for Bow and Tony and very soon became part of the fixtures and fittings where she stayed almost up to her retirement.

Ken and Enid will miss the village deeply, but unfortunately, the isolation brought on by Ken’s stroke has become very difficult for them. They have made the tough decision to move to Helmsley.

They would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of their friends for some fabulous times.

Thank you everybody

Clive and Jane Rutter

Lucy Rutter tells of the end of an era as Clive and Jane leave Nunnington to move to Hovingham. Clive, Lucy’s Dad, has lived in the village for 68 years, and Jane for some 40-plus years. They have been a big part of the village, especially in their younger years, and Jane has many happy memories growing up in Nunnington.

So as they say a fond farewell to Nunnington, here’s to their new chapter in their lives.
