Christmas carols

We sung carols round the Christmas tree at the Village Hall, and then in church with the newly formed village choir.

The village got together to sing Christmas Carols, not once but twice.

On Saturday, 16th December, many from the village braved the wind, rain, ice, and snow to sing carols around the Christmas tree at the Village Hall, followed by a pop-up pub for frazzled throats.

The Christmas carol service took place in the church the following Friday and consisted of seven carols and readings. The service was also the inaugural performance of the newly formed Nunnington Parish Choir. The Choir, organised by Mary Thew and led by Sally Aspinal, had had three rehearsals in the previous month and, in the short time available to them, rehearsed and performed four carols at the service, which was spectacular and very well supported. The parish’s top young chorister was promoted from York Minster to sing the first verse of Once In Royal David’s City, which everyone agreed was sung beautifully.

There was no shortage of volunteers for the choir, and it’s good to know the village has so many budding choristers. At one point, the organisers were worried that there would be more people in the choir than in the congregation.
