Autumn in Nunnington
Only in the last week have we seen those beautiful autumn days when you understand the significant meaning of “mists and mellow fruitfulness”.
However, the rain did not dampen the village spirit, and Nunnington partied at three well-organised and well-attended events, as the phots below testify..
The Open Mic Evening
Sally and the Village Hall Committee were blown away! Artists from the village all over North Yorkshire came along to the Village Hall on 29 September, and the audience was treated to some wonderful music. Thanks especially to Pip Garbutt and many others (including our own Matilda Milligan, Jells Finn and Sally Aspinall).
And the Samaritans were £250 better off after generous donations from the audience.
Harvest Thanksgiving Service
As last year, the service took place in the Studios Courtyard on 20 October.
The Revd Canon Sue Binks spoke movingly of the work of the farmers and all who go to getting food on our tables and focussed predominantly on the Farming Community Network, a charity dedicated to helping the farming community and farmers in distress, and in which Sue is now heavily involved. A number of children and adults from the village also participated in the service, reading the lessons and presenting gifts at the altar.
Drinks and food followed the service in the Courtyard, which became an opportunity for local people to meet and chat.
It was disappointing that none of our farmers could join us; it just shows what a challenging year it has been for them that delayed work on the fields prevented their attendance.
Halloween Trick and Treats
Thanks again to Eliza Foots for organising the traditional evening of trick or treats.
The effort that went into costumes and pumpkins this year was terrific, and its wonderful to see so many village children dressing up and enjoying themselves.
Still to come
It’s not all over yet by any means. Still to come:
- Quiz night on 16 November (see https://nunnington.net/event/20241116-quiz-night/ for details)
- Christmas Special Coffee Morning (the last of the year) on 6 December
- Wreath-making evening on 6 December
- Christmas Carols and drinks, to be confirmed
