August Bank Holiday in Nunnington
Although some villagers were away for the weekend, those who remained made the most of some long weekend entertainment. It wasn’t quite the Leeds Fesrtival, but it was fun.
The tabletop sale
Saturday’s tabletop sale enticed visitors from afar to search for bargains amongst treasures uncovered in attics and cellars. Everything from bicycles to books to trunks to cake tins appeared as if out of nowhere. Ellie, as usual, gets a special mention for selling so much apple juice and pear juice!
The sale raised over £326 for the Village Hall, of which £170 came from stall holders who each gave £10. A further £156 was donated from sale proceeds.
It was not the warmest of August mornings, but even so, it was a friendly and fun occasion, and that was the point.

Courtyard drinks and nibbles
Despite the cold and rain on Sunday evening, many people came to the courtyard at the studios with drinks and nibbles to share.
It was a privilege to listen to Pip play and sing. Pip loves coming to Nunnington, and Cancer Research has certified that the Parish raised £207.15 during the evening. Cancer Research in Thirsk was absolutely delighted and sent us a card to thank the parish for its generosity (see phots below).
The party lasted well into the night, and a hard core of villagers set the world to rights around one of the tables in the rain until…
The dog walk
Unsurprisingly, possibly, there was not a lot of enthusiasm for a village dog walk on Monday morning. However, three puppies got together in the Studios and played themselves into sleep (a good state for puppies to be in).
Thanks are due to all who came along, brought, sold, donated, drank, ate, and generally had fun. Special thanks to Eimear, Victoria P, Clang, Sally, Jane, Pip and Jeremy for organising the long weekend’s events.
