Helping Swifts and Martins
The recent decline in swift numbers is worrying, so Jonathan Pomroy, Wildlife and Landscape artist, gives an illustrated talk on how Nunnington can help and encourage swifts and house martins.
Joanathan is the area representative for Swift Conservation. He co- founded Helmsley Swifts and regularly talks to groups using his artwork to inspire people to enjoy and conserve the wildlife around them.
Sally Coulthard is unable to join the evening on that date, but has kindly provided ten signed copies of her book The Bee Bible – 50 Ways to Keep Bees Buzzing. The tips provided in her book focus on bees, but the knock-on effects will do wonders for other insects and garden plants, and in turn help to make the village more friendly for swift, martins and other wildlife.
Sally is our local bestselling author and columnist and has spent the last two decades writing about her favourite things – nature, history and craft. Many of her books delve into the traditions of rural life – from artisans to agriculture – the people, plants and creatures who make the countryside tick.
Members of the Nunnington Collective with an interest in joinery will be on hand to help with the construction and placement of swift boxes.
Jonathan has generously waived his usual fee to present to a local village. His talk is on 18 November 2025 in the Village Hall and is free. Refreshments will be available. Sally Coulthard’s books will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis (one copy per village household only).
