Parish carols 2024

The weekend before Christmas 2024 was marked by carols round the Village Hall Christmas tree, a pop up pub and the Village Carol Service.

The Parish had two bites of the Christmas Carols cherry on the weekend before Christmas 2024, washed down with mulled wine and mince pies at the Christmas pop-up pub.

Revd Sue Binks led Carols Around the Christmas Tree on Saturday evening, and Victoria provided accompanying music. Fortunately, the storms of the previous weekend had subsided, and with the mercury running into double figures, the snow held off. Even so, it was still chilly, but this didn’t stop many from the village from joining Sue and Victoria to sing well-known favourite carols around the Village Hall tree before scrambling back into the warmth of the Village Hall for some traditional post-carol singing food and wine, provided too much appreciation by the Village Hall Committee.

The Revd Canon Sue Binks was on hand again on Sunday evening to lead the Village Carol Service (Christmas is a hectic time for vicars). This time, she was supported by the Church Wardens and villagers who read the lessons.

The Nunnington Choir, led by Sally and Mary, was also reformed for the evening. After rehearsing every Wednesday for the previous month, the Choir added something unique to the service. Mary, Ian and Angelica sang solo at times during the service. The lights were dimmed as the congregation lit their candles from the four Advent Wreath Candles. During this time of quiet reflection, the choir sang the beautiful Coventry Carol, and Sally played “O Holy Night” on the cello.

With Sue’s Christmas Blessing finishing the service, everyone left to take the spirit of Christmas back to their homes and families.
