Parish Council vacancy election update (17 Sep)
On 17 Sep, the Parish Council issued the following update on the election to fill the vacancy on the PC:
After extensive correspondence with the NY Council, it has been established that a full, formal election for the current Parish Council vacancy will cost £2,600, payable by the Parish Council (for context, our precept is currently £1,500 per year).
Since being informed of this, the PC has explored all possible options for a less costly decision-making process, including a locally managed election. However, we have concluded that the best and only way to conduct an inclusive and fully democratic vote is to follow the formal process and pay the associated fee.
As such, nominations will reopen on 10 Oct, when the link to submit nomination forms to the NY Council will be shared.
The deadline for the delivery of nominations is usually 4 pm on the nineteenth working day before the poll (i.e. 4 pm on Friday, 18th Oct, to be confirmed by NYC).
Existing candidates have been informed of this, but if you’re considering running and haven’t already contacted Maggie, the Clerk to the Council, you can contact her for details or a chat. Her email address is nunningtonparish@outlook.com.
Please accept our thanks for your patience. It’s good to see so many people engaging with the election process.
- Nominations re-open: 10 Oct
- Nominations close: 4 pm, Fri 18 Oct (TBC)
- By-election held on: 14 Nov
