Patronal Festival Songs of Praise
Churchgoers celebrated the Feast of St James, Patron Saint of Nunnington Church, at the Nunnington church on Sunday, July 28th.
The Revd Canon Sue Binks and the Church Wardens wanted to celebrate the occasion with a special Songs of Praise and asked parishioners to submit requests for their favourite hymns.
It was a great idea, and nine requested hymns added joy and emotion to the service. Two modern hymns, The Spirit Lives to Set Us Free and One More Step Along the World I Go, reflected the spirit of pilgrimage and journey, which is so much a part of the St James story.
Sue Binks talked about the life of St James (who was quite a character) in her sermon, and the choir movingly sang the Panis Angelicus.
Apparently, Alastair and Sally Stewart are fans of a well-known Swedish group, and Sue and the Choir surprised them both at the end of the service by singing one of their favourite songs to thank everyone for the music and the songs they sang.
Thanks to Sue Binks, the Choir, the helpers and particularly to Alastair and Sally who provided a welcome glass of Prosecco and nibbles outside in the sun after the service.
